It's always really interesting for me to meet other artists in the the industry. As a journalist, I love to sniff out a great story, but as an artist it truly feeds me and informs me in all the different ways of being successful which helps put a perspective on a sometimes difficult to define career choice.
I deeply respect and aspire to become one of those individuals who have climbed to positions where they are sought out to educate others and share knowledge.
I met Harry Josh a few years ago at an event where he gave some product information and did a quick hair color demo. At the time, I had no knowledge of his career trajectory but I was very taken by his poise and his openness. I am so inspired by people who have that kind of generosity.
Later, when I learned that Harry's route to his current place as one of the most sought out hair artists was non-traditional, I was doubly impressed. I really connected with his story, as my path into beauty has been full of twists and turns.
I know I am still not who I am going to be and I hope I never will get "there."
Things I have learned by observing people who are at the top of their game:
You're never done, but not in a perfectionist, never-good-enough way. Appreciate where you have been. Just always keep learning.
Kindness is never wasted.
There is room for everyone. You also learn when you share.
People who are truly great never have to tell you how great they are. So pay attention, you never know who you are talking to.
